A friendly calico was found by a Good Samaritan who noticed she was heavily pregnant and brought her to a clinic for help.

Wanting to get the cat the care she deserved, the clinic staff contacted Best Friends Felines to see if they had room for an expectant mom. The timing was perfect, as a new foster volunteer had just signed up and was ready to take her in.

Her foster carer lovingly named her Mikaela after her rescuer. Within two days, they walked into her room to quite the surprise.

After wandering the streets in search of safe shelter, Mikaela was relieved to be indoors. Feeling secure, she soon went into labor.

She gave birth to four beautiful, healthy, plump kittens and immediately dove into mommy duties. “Mikaela is an excellent mother, and the babies are nursing and growing well,” Best Friends Felines shared.

The sweet momma was grateful to have a roof over her head and an abundance of food. She devoted most of her time to her demanding kittens, but whenever her foster carer came in, she greeted them with affectionate head bumps and purrs.

Once the kittens’ eyes opened and their legs strengthened, they started to move around the nest, their curiosity leading the way.

“Mikaela keeps a close eye on her babies as they wander around and explore a little more. The kittens are starting to get very playful with each other. It always seems to be the ginger kittens who start the play-biting.”

Mikaela has the patience of a saint, tolerating the little ones’ endless antics and playful roughhousing while nurturing them with baths and cuddles.

With a doting mom, the kittens (Angus, Oscar, Pikachu, and Peanut) quickly grew round bellies and had lots of energy to spare. As they found their footing, they ventured further from their nest.

But whenever one started to nurse or seek comfort, the rest would soon trickle back to their mom’s belly.

At five weeks old, the kittens became more independent, learning to eat from a dish and use the litter box by mimicking their mom.

Within a few days, they mastered the litter tray etiquette and lapped up formula like champs. They also discovered climbing, scaling small cat trees and even their mom like energetic little monkeys.

“They have found fun new places to sleep. Momma is happy playing and looking after her babies. They love human contact and follow their carer to the bathroom first thing in the morning.”

“They love having fun with each other, and they love to sleep with a buddy or sleep as a pile of four.”

As the kittens flourished into inquisitive and boisterous young cats, Mikaela began spending more time doing what she loved—snuggling with her foster family and soaking up all the love.

Once the kittens are big enough, she will happily retire from motherhood and find her dream home.
